Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) is a pan-African
Non-Governmental Organization formed in 1993 and registered in
Nairobi, Kenya. FAWE is the fruit of five visionary and
distinguished African Women Ministers of Education at the time;
who resolved to act against the appalling state of girls’
education in Africa, as a strategy towards ‘Education For
All’ (EFA). These visionary women Ministers of Education knew that
education for all was impossible, unless the girls were given a
push. They, therefore, formed FAWE as a strategy to accelerate EFA
by bridging the gender gap.

FAWEU strives to build partnership
with the private sector and individuals as a tool for resource
mobilization, advocacy and strengthened network for promotion and
support to girls’ education.
In 2007 during the 10 years
celebration, FAWEU in conjunction with the Uganda Lady Golfers
initiated a fundraising golf tournament to mobilize resources in
support of girl child education in Uganda. A number of private
partners were mobilized to sponsor a team of two and the response
was positive. As a result the proceeds from the mobilization for
the golf tournament supported 10 needy girls to access secondary
school education. Following the success of the event and the noble
cause it addressed, the Uganda Golf Club – Ladies section pledged
to have the tournament as an annual event to solicit for support
from the corporate companies towards promotion of girls’
education. read
